The ninth quadrennial state delegates’ conference of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Katsina State chapter, was declared open yesterday by the Secretary to the Government of Katsina State, Abdullahi Garba Faskari, who represented Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda.
Held at the NULGE State Secretariat in Katsina, the event witnessed an official handover of leadership from outgoing officials to new executives elected by delegates from local governments across the state. The conference themed “Reflection and Progress” was described as an avenue for exchanging ideas and planning for the future of local government administration.
In his remarks, Faskari highlighted the governor's commitment to strengthening the welfare of local government workers, emphasizing their integral role in implementing government policies and programs. “There can be no government without workers, just as workers need government to fulfill their mandates,” he stated, reaffirming the administration’s labor-friendly approach.
He also addressed key appeals made by the union, particularly regarding the implementation of essential projects and welfare programs. Faskari assured attendees that plans for distributing essential commodities to workers are underway and will be unveiled soon, urging patience as processes are finalized.
The conference included speeches from several dignitaries, including NULGE’s National President, Comrade Akeem Ambali Olatunji, who commended the government for its collaborative efforts with the union. Remarks were also delivered by the Katsina State NLC and TUC chairmen, Hon. Bishir Tanimu Dutsinma represented by Honorable Banye, and Hon. Rabo Tambaya Danja, among others.
Governor Radda's administration was widely recognized for fostering harmony between labor and government in the state. The delegates were urged to maintain this spirit of cooperation and unity as they chart a new course for the local government workforce.
The conference ended with a vote of thanks by Comrade Gambo Isah, Secretary General of NULGE, followed by the national anthem and a closing prayer.
